“How much does a dietitian cost in Malaysia?” is one of the first questions people ask us — and one of the hardest to answer with a Google search, because most clinics don’t publish their fees. This guide explains what a dietitian consultation actually costs in Malaysia, what affects the price, and what you get for the money — including our own fees, published openly.
What Affects the Cost of a Dietitian in Malaysia?
- Where you go. Hospital dietetics departments, private practices and online services all price differently. Hospital outpatient dietitian appointments are often bundled with specialist visits; private practices charge per session but typically offer longer, more personalised consultations.
- Session type and length. A thorough first consultation (60–75 minutes, covering medical history, blood results, medication and eating habits) costs more than a shorter follow-up review.
- Mode. Online consultations are often the most accessible option; clinic sessions allow a fuller in-person assessment.
- Complexity. Medical nutrition therapy for conditions like kidney disease or cancer requires more preparation and coordination with your doctors than general healthy-eating guidance.
Our Dietitian Consultation Fees
We believe you should know what a consultation costs before you message us. At Home Dietitians, clinic and online consultations start from RM150, with every session conducted one-to-one by our registered dietitian (MDA S2017-002).
The final fee depends on three things:
- Consultation type — clinic appointment in Petaling Jaya, or online session anywhere in Malaysia
- Session length — a thorough first consultation runs 60–75 minutes; follow-up reviews are shorter
- Follow-up packages — bundled sessions for ongoing conditions like diabetes or weight management cost less per session than ad-hoc bookings

What’s Included in a Consultation?
A first consultation with our dietitian includes a full dietary and medical history review, interpretation of your recent blood test results, a personalised nutrition plan built around Malaysian food and your daily routine, and written recommendations you can actually follow. Follow-up sessions track your progress, review new blood results, and adjust the plan as your condition or goals change.
Hospital vs Private Dietitian: Which Is Better Value?
Both are staffed by qualified, registered professionals. Hospital dietitians are excellent for inpatient care, but outpatient appointments are often short and waiting times long. A private dietitian typically offers longer sessions, faster appointments and closer follow-up — which for chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney disease often means fewer total sessions to reach the same result. The cheapest option per session is not always the cheapest path to your goal.
Can Insurance or HRDF Cover Dietitian Fees?
Some corporate wellness programmes are HRDF-claimable, and some health insurance policies cover dietitian consultations when referred by a doctor — check your policy’s outpatient benefits. For corporate nutrition programmes, contact us for a quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a dietitian consultation cost in Malaysia?
At Home Dietitians, clinic and online consultations start from RM150, with the final fee depending on session length and whether you choose a follow-up package. Hospital dietetics departments and private medical centres set their own fees, often bundled with specialist visits — so always ask for the consultation fee when you book. WhatsApp us for our current fee schedule.
Is a dietitian worth the money?
For a medical condition, dietary management is often one of the most cost-effective treatments available — structured nutrition support can improve blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol measurably, potentially reducing long-term medication and complication costs. Your dietitian should always work alongside your doctor, never instead of them.
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?
No referral is needed at private practices like ours — you can book directly. Bring your latest blood test results and medication list for the most precise plan.
Are online dietitian consultations cheaper?
Usually, yes — and for most conditions they are just as effective, with the same assessment, plan and follow-up as an in-person session.
